FAQs

Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly referred to as ‘Botox’, short for Botulinum toxin. This is a naturally occurring protein that causes the muscles of the face to relax, consequently smoothing out wrinkles. It is the UK’s most popular cosmetic treatment for the removal of wrinkles.

With a quick procedure and undeniable results, anti-wrinkle injections are the most popular cosmetic treatment available. Thousands of men and women receive anti-wrinkle injections in the UK every year. By relaxing the facial muscles, wrinkles are made less visible; this results in a natural, rejuvenated look.

They are the treatment of choice for people who have forehead lines, frown lines or wrinkles around their eyes, which they wish to reduce.
The treatment will involve Elizabeth making a series of small injections into the muscles of your face. The injection process itself will only take a few minutes. Elizabeth’s Botulinum toxin of choice is Botox® by Allergan.
The procedure is largely pain free, with the exception of mild discomfort, which is experienced due to the small needle injection involved. You may notice some soreness in the injection site directly after the treatment, but this should subside quickly.
Botulinum toxin has been in medical use for more than four decades, and it is administered in such a way that it only affects your muscles and sweat glands – it does not reach any other part of the body. As long as a qualified medical professional administers it, the risks are extremely minimal.
You can carry on with your day as normal, although we advise that you avoid strenuous activity/saunas/other facial treatments for up to 24 hours.

After 4-10 days you will notice an improvement in your lines/wrinkles, and this result will last approximately 3-4 months.

Anti–wrinkle injections are most effective when used to reduce the signs of ageing in the following places:

  • Forehead/brow
  • Between the eyes or frown lines
  • Side of the eyes or crows feet

The results usually last for around four months, after which you may wish to return for another treatment.

Not at all, there are various options. It may be that Dermal Fillers, PDO Threads, Skin peels or Dermaroller are possible alternatives for you. Before you undergo any injectable treatment, you will be invited for a free consultation session with Elizabeth who will help you determine which treatment is suitable for you.
Most side effects are short-lived and mild, the most common being mild bruising to the site of the injection.  Some patients also report mild headaches shortly after the treatment but these usually subside within 24 hours.

Cautions / contraindications

You should not have this treatment if:

  • The injected site is infected
  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients
  •  You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a neuromuscular disorder (e.g. myasthenia gravis).

The results usually last for around four months, after which you may wish to return for another treatment.

Full list of side effects, cautions and contraindications will be discussed at  the consultation.

Keeping your facial muscles active after the procedure will help the treatment to take effect. Try to avoid any unnecessary touching of your face during the 6-hour period directly after your treatment.

Do not consume any alcohol or pain medication immediately after the anti-wrinkle procedure, and avoid air travel for 24 hours. We do not recommend undergoing any electrical rejuvenation treatments in the week following your Botox treatment.

A minute quantity of Botox is injected into the muscles that cause dynamic lines, for example frown lines. The injection temporarily prevents nerve signals from reaching the muscle and as a result, the muscle relaxes, the skin smoothes out. This is not a permanent condition but it will last 3-4 months. It has been proven to be quite safe to have Botox injections at the above frequency over a period of years.

On average it takes 7-10 days for the results to become noticeable. At Hunter House Clinic we offer everyone a free review at 2 weeks to ensure the desired results have been achieved.
