As the natural ageing process takes its toll on us, our skin loses it’s full, firm, youthful appearance and becomes thinner and starts to wrinkle.

Sculptra® (often called the liquid face lift) has been around since the 1980s. It is a non-invasive injectable facial enhancement therapy to smooth out wrinkles, restore facial volume and contour the face. Sculptra works by stimulating the build-up of your body’s own collagen to get rid of lines and wrinkles and restore a more youthful appearance but with gradual, natural looking results. Sculptra provides an alternative option to consider instead of traditional surgery and some less longer-lasting non-surgical treatments.

Sculptra is a biocompatible and biodegradable injectable material known as poly-L-lactic acid that naturally stimulates your cells to produce their own collagen. Poly-L-lactic acid has been used successfully in surgical procedures for more than 25 years and is gradually, naturally, broken down by the body.

Sculptra is a discreet approach to achieving a rejuvenated appearance and, once collagen production has been stimulated, natural looking results should become noticeable in about 6 weeks. This subtle enhancement allows you to maintain your beauty secrets as there is no dramatic, instant change, but rather a gradual enhancement as your appearance is plumped up gradually from within.

What areas can Sculptra treat?

  • The temple in the upper face
  • The nose to mouth folds, tear trough, cheek and mid face areas
  • The chin, jawline and marionette lines in the lower face

Sculptra targets the underlying causes of the signs of ageing such as collagen loss. It is a facial injectable that works gradually in a series of treatments. An average of 2-3 sessions with an interval of 4-6 weeks between sessions produces a refined, more youthful looking appearance.

Scuptra effects can last up to 3 years.

No. At your first treatment visit, it may appear that Sculptra ® worked immediately because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra®. In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra® takes time to gradually correct the depression in your skin. Elizabeth will see you again a few weeks after your treatment to decide if you need more Sculptra® injections.

The appropriate number of treatment sessions may vary but the amount of Sculptra® you require will be discussed with you. Clients with severe facial fat loss may require 3 to 6 treatments.

Treatment results will differ for each person. On average treatment results lasted for at least 2 years after the first treatment session, in many clients. Elizabeth advises a single vial touch-up treatment every 12 months to maintain the desired effect.

You should not have Sculptra if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you have any skin inflammation or infection in the treatment area.

You should not have the treatment if you have a history of Keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring.

Sometimes there may be some bruising, redness or tenderness at the injection sites and sometimes there may be spottiness in the treated area. Rarely small lumps occur deep under the skin and can be felt when pressing the treated area but they are not visible on the face and disappear as the product disintegrates in time.

As with all injections there is a little discomfort. A local anaesthetic cream is applied prior to treatment to minimise discomfort.
